The Death of DVD

Photobucket

A landmark decision was made today that will send the DVD industry crashing further into the depths of hell (it's already in purgatory). It's called 'Remote DVR', and it will essentially do what Itunes did to CD's, except you can store your recorded content on an outside server, meaning you don't need a tivo or dvr box, but just the subscription. While it's pretty revolutionary and great for the consumer, it's another terrible blow for the programming community. Check out the article in Variety to get a better grasp of the dynamics.

"Iran So Far Away"

With all this chaos going on in Iran, felt it was perfect time to give some shine to a few old school West LA friends of mine (and escapees from the original revolution), with the video for their comedic "Iran So Far Away" song. From Malkovich and friends, here it is..

Tim Burton x MoMA

From this fall to next spring, MoMA is displaying all things Tim, including more than 700 pieces: paintings, drawings, storyboards, maquettes, puppets and other work created or designed by Burton. They'll also be screening a complete retrospective of all of his films. I hope they have an LA installment of this, sounds incredible. Lucky NY'ers, get more info here.

"New York, I Love You"

How many "Paris Je'Taime" like movies are we gonna see? There was Paris, then "Tokyo: The Movie", what's next?? "Oslo, Here We Do!" Apparently, Scarlett Johannsen had originally directed a vignette but it wasn't good enough for the final cut. This vignette format is ideal for today's attention span, and allows us to see a gazillion stars in one sitting. A toast to one of the greatest cities in the world, here's the trailer..

Pharrell Will Mold You

Photobucket

Today, Billboard reports that Pharrell Williams is launching his own branding agency. What this all means for you is you will probably see even more major corporate brands going for the 'cool guy' angle. He already was pretty convincing in the Zune campaign. He's doing this by partnering with already established Cornerstone Agency, the branding/marketing company married to Fader Magazine. All blessings to him, read the article here.

It's called Project Natal. Sure it will be cool, but not sure how I feel about looking like a mime while getting my game on. Check out the demo video.
