Hulu

This morning had breakfast with Alex Kruglov in Content Acquisition & International at Hulu. If there have been any forces that have truly transformed the media landscape in the last couple years, it has got to be Hulu. Their aggressive content gathering has essentially made the ad rev-share business model commonplace. PS - the avocado and cheddar cheese breakfast burrito at Lemon Moon is pretty good! There's Alex..

Photobucket

While on the topic of Hulu, my first film "Rock Fresh" is being featured on the site - in fact Alex told me it beat out many of the big shows and studio movies last week. According to him, it tallied the 3rd highest number of views for the day it was featured on the front page. It's weird to see your first baby still walking. Made "Rock Fresh" back in '03, here's the embed..

You can also buy the discounted DVD direct from us - $15 and comes with a free movie poster.

"The Vault 12"

I'm genuinely curious about this upcoming web series. The premise is interesting, lock up 12 people 40 feet below the ground, and see what happens. Could be a hit or miss, but it will be a good case study to see if viewers are and will be willing to pay a subscription premium in the near future. Here's the trailer from their site..

D'Amore

Today, sat down with my friend Caroline D'Amore and her manager Jeb Brandon. We're 3 building on something new. Here we are at the offices of Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin Entertainment..

Photobucket

Interestingly enough, KLWG Entertainment is the same firm/company where Evan Ross is managed, who is attached to my feature "Backpackers". The Wood is truly a small town.

Velvet Heart / Spring 2010 Campaign

Here's a new video I just shot and edited for Velvet Heart, a contemporary women's line. The shoot was all over Downtown LA, features Chloe of LA Models..

"I Need a Dollar"

My friend and guy I admire musically, Aloe Blacc is on the steady climb like you could only expect. His new single "I Need a Dollar" is the theme track on HBO's new show "How To Make It In America". The show can definitely use some better writing, but this post isn't about what the show needs, but rather Aloe's first theme track..

You can download the amazing track here. And you may recall, but I produced a pod for Current on Aloe back in 2008. Here it is to refresh your memory..

Stones Throw

Yesterday, took a trip out east to Highland Park to visit J-Rocc, original Beat Junkie and one of the most respected DJ's actually from this city. And he's a real DJ, not just a button pusher like many of these faux club DJ's saturating the scene. There he is in what was supposed to be bedroom #2..

Photobucket

That's just one room. J can very well be on the show "Hoarders", the vinyl edition. Here's how much he has, it's borderline freaky..

Visited the Stones Throw compound just a block away, where J drops mixtapes and provides production.

There's Jamie Strong, 'Minister of Information'..

Photobucket

Downstairs in the product room, he shared a super cool record they put out with Dublab..

Photobucket

And of course some swag, thanks Jamie!

Check out my new duvet cover by French artist Parra, love it!

"Medium"

Yesterday, headed down to Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach to direct/edit the behind-the-scenes featurettes for the CBS show "Medium"..

Photobucket

Like many other shows, it started on NBC, but after a good run and rising production costs, the Peacock dropped it. Luckily CBS stepped up, and now the show is in its sixth season..

Photobucket

There's Patricia Arquette at 'work'..

Photobucket

While she's at work, here's their faux dining room..

Photobucket

The neighborhood seems calm..

Photobucket

Until the crew moves in..

Photobucket

If you dig the show and want to check my work, it will all be on the "Medium" Season 6 DVD, released later this year.

"Tron Legacy" / Trailer

Hard to tell if this is going to live up to the first. Effects look amazing, let's hope the director didn't heavy hand so much where we lose sight of the story. Here's the trailer..

Brave New Media

Yesterday, I took a trip out west to have a round table lunch at the Viceroy in Santa Monica. Waiting for me were a few colleagues who know their s**t when it comes to the brave new frontier of new media. There's Doug Dicconson, VP of Biz Dev at Babelgum..

Photobucket

If you don't know, Babelgum is funded by an Italian billionaire and one of the few online channels who actually still buy content, instead of pitching you some half-ass, rev share pipe dream. There's one of my close collaborators Raymond Roker of URB.

Photobucket

Like most other ill-fated print mags in 2009 (i.e. Vibe, King, etc), it's no surprise that URB's printing press went dark too. But Raymond's a smart guy - together we're figuring out a way to push the brand into it's next life. There's Josh Glazer, URB's long-time editor..

Photobucket

And myself, anxious to eat my Mediterranean lamb wrap.

Photobucket

More later.

Vinyl Still Weighs a Ton

Earlier today, stopped by Peanut Butter Wolf's slightly newer house in the 'eastside hills'. You might remember his last Griffith Park house where he had a few slammin' NYE parties. The new spot is nicer, he's married now. I won't show the front because of you stalkers, but here's the Quasimoto marker on the sidewalk, if you can find it..

Photobucket

There's PBW aka Chris Manak, founder of Stones Throw. There he is in his digging den..

Photobucket

Photobucket

The house bleeds the basics..

Photobucket

Prepping for the big Stones Throw/Converse Party at the fast approaching SXSW..

Photobucket

Photobucket

All pulled from here, which is just about a quarter of his 45 collection..

Photobucket

Here's one of my favorite songs of the past year of the ox, from my man Mayer Hawthorne, a kid stuck in Motown time and so refreshing..

Masters of the New Music Video Universe

OK Go has been known for innovative, yet engagingly simple music videos. Here's their newest entitled "This Too Shall Pass". Pretty cool, especially since anyone with a prosumer camera could've made this, with the right patience..

And the 'treadmill video' that's been referenced through the pop culture universe ever since.
