"Crips and Bloods: Made In America"

Just rented Stacy Peralta's latest documentary last night. I dug it. The film was chock full of archival footage and in my opinion, provided a solid look at the conditions that gave birth to this violent subculture. Although I would've liked to have seen more 'active' documentation, the cast of certified gangsters were good and the interviews honest. Peralta proves again that he is absolutely a quality documentary filmmaker. Here's the trailer..

Gaslamp Killer Set

Off Red Bull Music Academy Radio's library. GLK is a friend of mine who also happened to have a cameo in "The Clinic". GLK aka Willow hits a niche that very few DJ's can hit, let alone master. Dark and swampy, that's how I like to describe it. Check it for yourself..

"Tyson"

Rented the Mike Tyson documentary the other night and hoped for alot, and it delivered just under. Iron Mike was the favorite boxer of the 80's, not to mention I played his Nintendo game incessantly! Mike was probably the biggest paradox sports has ever seen - a caged brute that was surprisingly soft-hearted and intelligent. Overall and in hindsight a pretty crazy dude. Mike and his life was as enigmatic as any figure in modern history. Now the guy parties and is on a lot of meds - you can tell by his slurred speech in the documentary's interviews. Although entertaining, I felt the filmmakers simply didn't do a thorough job. It was just one day with Mike (in the same outfit), a few ancillary interviews, and archival footage. I would've liked to have seen interviews with Evander, Don King, etc. Who knows, maybe they tried. At least let's see Mike in his current daily life, there was none of that. Nevertheless, here's the trailer..

Here's also a low-fi, but good collection of Tyson's beatdowns..

Diamond Life

Yesterday went up to Nick Diamond's house, founder of premiere skate fashion brand Diamond Supply Co. We're working on something ultra-fresh, you'll hear about it soon. Nick's also building a skate ramp in his backyard, you'll find the pics here when it's ready. There's Nick imagining the layout..

He hyped me to a few projects he's got going on. Here's his new skateboard and tee collaboration with legend Christian Hosoi, my personal favorite skater from the 80's. Look how they're maintaining the O.G. hammerhead style, nice..

Another collab, this time with Rick Ross and his Maybach Music group..

More to come.

WTF?

Photobucket

Variety reported today that Ellen Degeneres has offically replaced Paul Abdul as the third panel judge on American Idol. This proves that bureacracy reigns supreme in television and some decisions couldn't be more out of touch with the general public. America loved Paula, they should've gave the beloved Laker girl the money she deserved - after all they gave Ryan Seacrest $45 mil over 3 years and Simon Cowell earns that same $45 mil each year! And he's locked in until 2011 and gets paid off every use of the format worldwide! Rich dude! Looks like Hollywood is still up to its same tricks. And you know what I mean.
