Memorial Day Recap!

So it was my buddy Jordan's bday, so we all said hell with LA, let's go south to San Diego! Mark and I hopped in Bee's whip and jetted down there, jumping right into the fire at my friend Craig's 30th bday @ the swanky and newly rebranded Se Hotel. There's Mark, Bee, the owner Steve Rebeil, and myself having some drinks..

There were absolutely no vacancies, but Steve the gracious host he is, hooked us up with a nice little condo on the 17th floor..

Later that night, a few friends stopped by. A few of 'em took the liberty of just passing right out!

Photobucket

So I had to Christ Air 'em!

Photobucket

Around 2am, goofing off in our condo when we hear a series of shots! Not tequila, but gunshots! I look down from our balcony and see people scattering like ants, women shrieking in terror. Read about it here. Here's video I took of the immediate aftermath..

Gaslamp Shooting! from Calico Grey Label on Vimeo.

So of course we can't let the ladies walk back to the car without protection!

Next day we hit the Hard Rock who throw their version of Rehab called Intervention. Definitely not Vegas, but enough for the job..

Beasts!

Quantum physics!

The rest is a blurrrrrrrrr.

People Hate LA

You've heard it a million times, "I hate LA, wahhh wahhh wahhh". It's the token statement from some transplant who's hit their wall and realize their mother was right and their dreams of being an actor were futile! As an LA native myself, it's pretty damn frustrating when you hear someone who's been in LA all but 6 months say the city sucks and has nothing to offer. I can't imagine going somewhere else and saying that, it's just ignorant! LA's good, once you find the right people to surround yourself with and not the fake, not the shallow, not the fellow transplant who's turned into a cold-hearted weirdo. Check out this hilariously ironic video about this phenomenon, please watch, it's too funny. And please, feel free to leave, you're raising the rent!

"Man on Wire"

French eccentric and overall weirdo Phillipe Petit walked a tightrope between the World Trade Centers back in the summer of '74. Told you he was a weirdo! Or just that crazy. This film recounts the event through a mix of archival footage and very slick re-creations of this 'artistic crime'. I enjoyed it, rent it for yourself. Here's the trailer..

Blue Balls

The States has Disneyland, China has Love Land! But China is showing it's old ways, shutting the gates before they even open. Here's the demo team tearing down a pair of legs with the biggest thong I've ever seen!

Photobucket

But some say the park was just vulgar, with inappropriately mammoth genitalia on display! Either way it was an interesting concept and indirectly a big step forward for China whose gov't was initially funded it. Those in East Asia who wish they could see more, just take a flight to Tokyo.

"Lie To Me"

I'm currently editing the featurette for the Fox show "Lie To Me", which is Tim Roth's first foray into television. I love this show, think it's incredibly smart, and honored to be involved on this end. The series itself is inspired by the real life human lie detector Paul Ekman. Here's a clip that introduces you to this series, which just this past Wednesday, took home the ratings crown for its Finale..

"G.I.Joe"

Meant to post this awhile back but got caught up. As an avid fan of the 80's cartoon, I'm paying very close attention. Everyday, channel 13 @ 5pm, I had to be in front of the tube! I had collected hundreds of G.I.Joe figures, tons of automobiles, even the Cobra dome that costed $200 from the beloved and now Target-owned Fedco! I even made a little home movie (my first flick!) with my pet turtles and G.I.Joe's! Bunched up my blanket to make mountains for them to fight each other in! Too bad, their torsos would always break and the rubber bands would snap! Another interesting note, good buddy of mine who played the security guard in "The Clinic", stars in the popcorn flick. Here's the trailer, G.I.Nerds judge for yourself..

Hooligans

It's Manchester United v Barcelona in the Champs Final. But it probably won't be English and Spanish fans going at it. The game is in Rome, a city nicknamed Stab City, due to all the knife related violence. People are saying English fans may get attacked from all sides, as Italian fans are bitter towards them. Here's the article from BBC. Here's a clip of the infamous Heysel riot of 1985 explaining why..

Semi-throwback, this is just from a years back - Groove Armada's "At The River". Very soothing. Turn the cpu speakers up and see your co-workers slowly gravitate towards you...

Melrose Movement

Earlier today, took a bike ride down Melrose to chat with Aaron Levant, mastermind behind the Agenda Trade Show (which has recently moved from San Diego to Huntington Beach) and co-owner of the DCMA clothing line, made famous by the Good Charlotte brothers..

Photobucket

There's Aaron..

Photobucket

Then stopped by Stir Crazy for another meeting where I ran into a few locals you should know, Brett Williams and Melrose Larry..

Photobucket

A day isn't complete without bumping into Melrose Larry. Next time you see him waving maniacally to cars while driving on Melrose, please, wave back.
